ABOUT

Jane Eyre je vybraná scéna z vybraného dílu seriálu Friends/Přátelé. Děj je primitivní: dvě kamarádky začnou chodit do kursu literatury, jedna vytrvale odmítá dělat domácí úkoly, druhá ji za to poprávu nechá ztrapnit před celou třídou.

Mezi plusy řadím: žádné sexuální narážky (na rozdíl od spousty jiných scén v Přátelích), plno užitečných obratů (včetně těch, které jsem tam přidal sám ;-), relativně krátké promluvy obou postav (žádné dlouhé monology), výchozí situace dobře známá všem studentům. Prostě ideální výukový text.

Teoreticky bylo možno jej využít i jako 2s, to by ale líp vyznělo kdyby tato scéna měla pokračování nebo předkračování (prequel), aby je bylo možno použít současně (ve 2s se obvykle pracuje s dvěmi texty, jež na sebe nějak navazují, i když nutnou podmínkou to není).

Dokonalost formátu nám trochu narušuje třetí postava, učitelka. Kolem té se ale dá obtočit tak, že její roli převezme student, který hrajePhoebe (ta v té chvíli nemluví), při přehrávání před celou třídou ji zase může sehrát učitel.

VOCAB

Hodně práce si ušetříte tím, že slovíčka předem vystavíte na web (kdo dnes tvrdí, že tuto možnost nemá, ten se vymlouvá) a studentům na ně poskytnete odkaz. Nezdržujete se tím pádem jejich vysvětlováním v hodině a získaného času můžete využít k a.t. aktivitám studentů.

JANE EYRE: ROBOCOP’S GRANDMA

Phoebe and Rachel’s class; Rachel walks in and sits next to Phoebe.
Rachel: So, quick, what’s this book about?
Phoebe: You mean you didn’t read this one, either?!
Rachel: Well, I was gonna, but I accidentally ended up reading something else. Vogue. So tell me about this Jane Eyre woman.
Phoebe: No! You should’ve read it yourself.
Rachel: Come on, Phoebe! Don’t be such a goodie-goodie!
Phoebe: fine. So Jane Eyre, first of all, you’d think she’s a woman, but in fact she’s a robot. Yeah, no kidding, this book was years ahead of its time.

the teacher enters the classroom.
the teacher: Sorry I’m late. Let’s get started. So, what did everybody think about Jane Eyre?
Phoebe: Rachel and I were just discussing it and she had some very interesting insights.
the teacher: Well, go ahead, Rachel. I wonder what you have to say about the book.
Rachel: Thank you. What struck me most when reading Jane Eyre was how the book was so ahead of its time.
the teacher: I suppose you’re talking about feminism, in which case I think you’re absolutely right.
Rachel: Well, feminism yes, but also the robots.

after class, Rachel is outraged that she’s been humiliated in front of the other students.
Rachel: That was so embarrassing! I mean, I was wondering why everyone was giving me those strange looks but I just figured they were impressed with my insights.
Phoebe: I’m sorry. But I loved it when you started comparing Jane Eyre to Robocop.
Rachel: How can you call that funny! I made a total ass of myself. I can’t believe you let me go on and on like that.
Phoebe: I snapped! You weren’t taking the class seriously.
Rachel: Phoebe, come on! What is the big deal? I thought we were doing this to have a good time.
Phoebe: I did want to have a good time but I also wanted to learn. I always hear people talk about what they learned in high school and i never even went to high school.
Rachel: Oh, I wish I knew you actually wanted to learn. I wouldn’t have goofed off so much. I’m sorry.
